Barbara Pavlock received her Ph.D. from Cornell University in Comparative Literature, with a focus on classical and Renaissance epic poetry. She came to Lehigh in 1989 and has been Director of the Program in Classical Studies since 1994. Pavlock is the author of Eros, Imitation, and the Epic Tradition (Cornell 1990) and The Image of the Poet in Ovid's Metamorphoses (Wisconsin 2009), which was named an Outstanding Academic Book of 2009 by Choice Magazine. She has also written a number of articles on Latin epic and lyric poetry and is currently working on resonances of the late Roman republic in Vergil's Aeneid.
