Joseph Hsin-Shun Chang

Joseph Hsin-Shun Chang grew up in Taiwan, receiving his bachelor’s degree in International Business and master’s degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures from National Taiwan University. After a year of military service, he was happy to join Lehigh’s English Department as a Ph.D. student.

Joseph’s research interests include the horror and detective genre, especially Victorian Gothic and contemporary American horror. His master’s thesis looked into how Thomas Harris’ The Silence of the Lambs was influenced by the practice of public anatomy and became a milestone in the serial killer genre.

Throughout the years, Joseph’s favorite pastime remains to be re-reading Sherlock Holmes stories and A Christmas Carol beside a heater on wintry nights.
