The Literature and Social Justice Graduate Student Conference is an annual event, organized by graduate students in the Lehigh English Department. The conference gives students an opportunity to share their work with emerging scholars from around the country and to foster a national conversation about Literature and Social Justice from right here at their home institution. Those who join the conference committee get firsthand organizing experience, building essential academic leadership skills as they fundraise, establish community partnerships, invite keynote speakers, and plan social events while also managing logistical details from transportation to catering. By selecting a theme, the conference committee plays a central role in shaping the department’s intellectual focus each year, encouraging students and professors alike to think about a particular set of questions leading up to the conference, as announced in the CFP.
