Assistant Professor of Composition-Rhetoric

The Department of English at Lehigh University invites applications for a tenure- track Assistant Professor of Composition-Rhetoric. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in English or another relevant discipline, conferred by Fall 2018, with formal training or equivalent experience in Composition-Rhetoric and a significant research program in that field. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in a subfield that will broaden the department’s offerings in writing studies: Professional Writing, Community and Digital Literacies, or Multimodal Composition and Rhetoric. Commitment to writing program administration and instructor development is also essential. After an appropriate period without major administrative responsibilities, the successful candidate should expect to assume the position of director of the First-Year Writing Program, as part of a rotation shared by faculty.

Successful candidates will be productive scholar-teachers, with a commitment to research and publication as well as a record of excellent teaching. Evidence of research productivity beyond the dissertation is desirable. The English Department foregrounds its graduate program in Literature and Social Justice, so that a commitment to the goals of that program is also important. Many members of the department are affiliated with interdisciplinary programs such as Africana Studies, Health Medicine and Society, and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

The English Department is responsible for the First-Year Writing Program as well as a major in English and a graduate program offering both M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. We currently offer a graduate certificate in Composition-Rhetoric, consisting of 12 credits of course work. This position carries a 2-2 teaching load of undergraduate and graduate courses.

To apply, please upload a letter of application, CV, dissertation abstract or research statement, statement of teaching philosophy, writing sample (approximately 25 pages), and three letters of recommendation to Academic Jobs Online: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/Lehigh/English All materials should be received by October 23, 2017.

Questions about the position should be directed to Prof. Barry Kroll (bmk3@lehigh.edu), chair of the search committee. We are planning to conduct Skype interviews after Thanksgiving and campus interviews for finalists in late January and early February.

The College of Arts and Sciences at Lehigh is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. Lehigh University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
